Major: Communication with a Literary and Cultural Studies Concentration
Class Registration and Late Nights in the Unistructure
November 11th, 2009
Hello!
So on Monday morning I woke up at 6:50. This is clearly not by any choice of mine. [My current class schedule makes it so I suffer through a total of 5 hours worth of classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but get to blissfully enjoy sleeping as late as I want on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because the only class I have on those three days is a Wednesday night class. I know. You're jealous.] I was actually registering for classes. A funny thing happened when I met with my advisor last week; I found out I'm a semester ahead due to AP credits. Right now, I'm technically a second semester sophomore. Since the real world is way less fun than college, there is no way I want to graduate early. I, instead, decided to take on a Literary and Cultural Studies concentration in addition to my major of Communication. So, with all this in mind, I plugged into the internet and waited in hopes of getting my perfectly planned out schedule for Spring 2010. I was quite lucky and was back in bed by 7:05.

Hello!
So last night was the Greek Ball. It was open to everyone in Greek Life and any member could bring a guest from outside Greek Life. It was so fun! Read More...
It’s already November!
November 4th, 2009
Hello!
I cannot believe that it's already November. Seriously—where did the semester go? Halloween was so much fun. On Tuesday, Greek Life held its annual Halloween party for faculty's kids. They were so cute! We took them trick-or-treating in Hall 10 and then had food and games back in the Bryant center. It was really nice because the other day I was wearing a shirt for my sorority and a woman stopped me in the hallway. She asked if I had participated in the event and when I told her yes she told me that her granddaughter had so much fun and couldn't stop talking about it all the way home. This weekend was great too! There was so much to do on campus and everyone got really into the costumes. This week is going to be very busy—all my classes are loaded onto Tuesdays and Thursdays (with a night class on Wednesday) so I have quite a bit to do within three days. I love it though; when everyone else is complaining on Sunday night that they have to go to class the next day, I know that my weekend isn't over yet. I'll let you know how things go.
Talk to you soon!
♥ Tara
My weekend with Oompa-Loompas
November 2nd, 2009
Hi everyone! My name is Tara Calnan and I'm a sophomore at Bryant University and a Communication major, with a business minor. I'm from Bellingham, Massachusetts and went to Mount Saint Charles Academy, just about ten minutes from Bryant (I really travelled far). I've just started as a student blogger, so I hope you enjoy reading about my time on campus. Even though I live a mere thirty minutes away, I almost never go home. I just have too much going on here and love every second of it. I'm involved in the honors program, Delta Zeta sorority, and the Bryant Players, which I'm sure you'll be reading all about throughout the year.
I actually just had my directorial debut this past weekend. Every year the Bryant Players put on four shows, the first one being for Parents' and Family Weekend. I moved back in with no expectations of directing, but the director and assistant director backed out over scheduling conflicts over the summer. So within a month, my assistant director and I pulled together "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
I've acted since the fifth grade, but I've never been more nervous for a show. There's something about having control all along but then having to give it up once the curtain opens that's so very scary. Except sometimes, the curtain doesn't open or close, which is what happened Saturday night. Twenty minutes before the doors were to open, our main curtain would not shut. Of course, it's all electronic and there's no manual override and I was losing it backstage.
I was pretty much worried over nothing. I had a fabulous cast of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The 700 people that came to see the show over the course of the weekend loved every minute of the performance. There was nothing more rewarding than seeing my cast get a standing ovation. They worked hard and deserved it.
My lovely cast!

(Shout-out to Marianne Marchant for the pictures!)So, that was my weekend. It was pretty intense. I'll actually have something of a life now that I'm not at rehearsal every night. But something else will come up and be just as busy, so we'll see how long I'll really have to relax. Well anyways, I'll talk to you all later!
