A message from President Machtley regarding earthquake in Haiti

January 15th, 2010

Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley released the following message today (Jan. 15, 2010):

Dear friends and colleagues,

Our prayers and sympathy go out to all those in Haiti and elsewhere who are mourning the loss of their loved ones in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake on January 12. The International Red Cross has estimated that three million people - a third of Haiti's population - may need emergency relief that includes shelter, food, and clean water.

Right now we are reaching out to Bryant students, alumni, and friends who may have been in Haiti at the time of the earthquake. We have received confirmation that both of Bryant's currently enrolled students from Haiti are safe, although they have endured a traumatic experience.

Bryant students, faculty, staff, and alumni are eager to continue our tradition of responsiveness to humanitarian crisis and already have made generous donations toward Haitian relief efforts. (The Center for International Disaster Information offers this list as a resource). As international relief efforts begin to take shape and our students return to campus on January 25, the Bryant community will mobilize as a whole to help Haiti and its people reclaim hope and rebuild their lives. Please look to the Bryant website as a resource for more detailed information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

President Ronald K. Machtley
