SMITHFIELD, R.I. — As a new club sport, the Bryant women's crew team has experienced a number of firsts in the past year — first practice, first race, first spring season. On April 28, the team gathered with other members of the Bryant community for another first: a boat-naming ceremony for two of the team's four boats.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - With a windup and a pitch, Bill Conaty '67 helped Bryant University officially dedicate Conaty Park, the University's new baseball and softball complex named for Conaty, a University Trustee, and his wife, Sue.
The ceremonial first pitch took place Saturday, April 28, before the men's baseball team took on Northeast Conference opponent Fairleigh Dickinson.

A $1.3 million donation from the Conaties, of Sunapee, N.H., and North Palm Beach, Fla., has helped transform the Bryant baseball and softball complex into a first-class Division I stadium that is arguably the best in New England, offering bleacher seating for 500, including 200 chair-back seats, and a state-of-the-art press box.

Bryant wasted little time in winning Division 1 baseball crown

One season is all Bryant University needed to establish itself as a championship program in the Division I Northeast Conference, the Providence Journal writes. Bryant's baseball team won the 2010 regular-season title Wednesday.
"It is outstanding and a huge win for the athletic department," Director of Athletics Bill Smith told the Journal. "It shows all the teams making the transition that not only can we win but we will win in Division I. We knew the transition wasn't going to be an easy one, but we felt we would have some early success, and this is one of them."
