Smithfield opens new Confucius Classroom

Representatives of the state, the town of Smithfield, the Chinese government and Bryant officially launched Smithfield's pioneering Confucius Classroom program, a five-year, $500,000 project aimed at introducing students from kindergarten through 12th grade to Chinese language and culture.

Said to be the first public school effort of its kind in the nation, the program is entirely financed by the Chinese government, in cooperation with the Confucius Institute at Bryant University.
