Tip on effective leadership from Bryant management professor

April 23rd, 2012 | Business Unplugged

Business strategist Carol Roth includes guidance from Michael A. Roberto, professor of management, in her roundup of tips for effective leadership.

Roberto's advice: "Encourage dissenting views and constructive debate. Many people fear speaking up in the presence of senior leaders of an organization. Therefore, leaders often don't hear bad news or dissenting opinions. They hear 'yes' far too often. Leaders need to create a climate where people feel comfortable speaking up. Beyond that, they have to find ways to stimulate and induce dissent and debate."
