Bryant Players present the musical ‘Rent’ April 13-15
April 2nd, 2012
SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Tickets are now on sale for the Bryant Players' presentation of Rent, which will be performed April 13-15.
"It's not just a show that people know. It's a show that people love," said Rent director Mary Green '12 of Merrick, N.Y. And because of what Rent is and what it stands for, it's a show that has united cast and crew, said Green, who is double-majoring in management and marketing.
Based on the Puccini opera La Bohème, Rent tells the story of a group of struggling young artists and musicians who live in New York City under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The show debuted in New York City as a workshop production in 1994, opened off Broadway in January 1996, and moved to Broadway the following April. That same year, the show won four Tony Awards, five Drama Desk Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Rent will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in Janikes Theater. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for Bryant students, $7 for Bryant faculty and staff, and $10 for the general public.
